The celebration of International Women’s Day on 8 March should remind the world that there is “still a long way to go” before gender equality is fully achieved.

That’s the opinion of Maria Noel Vaeza, Director of the Programme Division at UN Women, the UN’s gender entity, which is calling on countries to step up efforts to close the gender gap, by 2030.

Ms Vaeza said that in many countries - and even within the United Nations itself - women are still “struggling” to reach leadership positions.
