International human rights law is being violated “in multiple conflicts” and with “complete impunity”, while thousands of people risk starving to death in Syria, the UN’s human rights chief warned Monday.

Speaking at the start of the 31st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein also said that in Syria, 450,000 people remain under siege.

The UN Human Rights Commissioner also focused on the issue of migrants, urging member states to “rise above the crescendo of xenophobia” that currently prevailed.
