Creativity and flexibility; those are two of the qualities needed by the UN’s team of mediators who are sent around the world to help resolve some of today’s most intractable conflicts.
Working in countries like Syria, Burundi, Mali and South Sudan, the mediators operate in highly pressurized environments and largely behind the scenes.
Robert Dann is the Chief of the Mediation Support Unit based at UN headquarters in New York.
