Strong economic growth in the United States generally benefits other economies worldwide, but a strong US dollar is rarely good news for emerging markets.

That’s according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) which finds that during periods when the US dollar appreciates, real growth in emerging markets slows down.

IMF Senior Economist Nicolas Magud recently co-authored an article on this subject, looking back at more than 30 years of data.
