This year’s selection process for the next UN Secretary-General is “the most transparent and open” that there has ever been.

That’s according to Dan Thomas, the Spokesperson for the President of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly, Mogens Lyyketoft .

The Assembly, composed of all 193 Member States, is the main deliberative, policy-making and representative organ of the UN.

The current Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon is standing down at the end of the year.

In the past, the discussions surrounding the candidates and the final vote have been behind closed doors.

Mr Thomas has been speaking to Jocelyne Sambira about where we are in the process.
