South Sudan is facing “unprecedented levels of food insecurity,” UN agencies in the country are warning.

Around 2.8 million people are in urgent need of food assistance.

The situation is particularly dire because the rise in hunger is happening during the post-harvest period.

James Bwirani, food security analyst of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) began by explaining to Sebit William how his agency came to this conclusion.
