Women and girls who were brutalized by the Nigeria-based Boko Haram terrorist group need to know, “it’s not their fault".

That powerful message coming from a UN expert who just returned from visiting displacement camps in the north-east of the African country.

On Monday, the UN humanitarian office OCHA launched an appeal to support people who have been displaced by conflict across the region.

Veronica Reeves spoke with UN Special Rapporteur Maud de Boer-Buquicchio, who says an untold number of women in Nigeria are facing motherhood; all the while being shunned by society and even their own families, after being raped by members of the insurgent group.
