Thousands of refugees have arrived in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) after fleeing South Sudan, in what the UN has described as a “disturbing trend”.

Around 7,000 new arrivals have been registered in DRC by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in the last month after fleeing war-torn South Sudan.

Hundreds more have recently arrived in neighbouring Uganda.  Nearly 90 per cent are women and children.

Veronica Reeves spoke with UNHCR Public Information Officer Teresa Ongaro and asked her what has prompted the sudden movement of people.
