Local climate action is vital to ensure that the goal of keeping global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius is met.

That’s the message from the COP21 climate change conference in Paris on Tuesday, which is focussing in part, on how cities and regions can play their part in keeping global warming to an acceptable level.

Delegates heard that local transportation, housing and waste management policies, could all play a significant role in reducing emissions.

Cristina Silveiro spoke to Dr Joan Clos, Executive Director of the UN Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, and asked him what the main role of cities should be in the context of COP21.
