Governments across the world need to collect better data to help combat all forms of discrimination.

That’s according to the UN’s Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, Mutuma Ruteere.

He said that that more detailed statistics on citizens’ ethnicity, economic and cultural patterns, would lead to better awareness and better government policies.

But in his report to the UN General Assembly, he warned that human rights and privacy needed to be protected.
