“Historic” UN General Assembly addressing global concerns

Global agreement on the way to create a sustainable future for all people and the planet has been welcomed as “historic” by the new president of the UN General Assembly.

Mogens Lykketoft , a former Danish Foreign Minister, will serve at the helm of the 70th session of the Assembly, which begins on Tuesday.

World leaders are expected to adopt the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) when they meet at the UN next week.

Mr Lykketoft has been telling Anjali Das why 2015 could signify “a new common understanding” in addressing extreme poverty, climate change and other global challenges.
