Women-focused resolution faces old and new challenges

Women’s rights are in danger of “sliding backwards” despite a landmark United Nations resolution seeking to promote equality, a leading UN official said Wednesday.
The warning relates to UN Security Council resolution 1325, which was adopted 15 years ago in favour of women, peace and security.
At a conference in Geneva to review the resolution’s global progress, delegates heard that despite some successes in recent years, women’s fundamental rights have been either sidelined or violated.
