Literacy can help to “accelerate” the sustainable development goals or SDGs, the new development targets the UN is due to adopt later this month.

That’s according to the UN cultural agency, UNESCO.

On Tuesday, the international community is marking the International Day of Literacy,  the theme for which this year is “Literacy and Sustainable Societies.”

Siobhán Garside asked UNESCO’s Arne Carlsen about the impact of higher literacy rates.
