Calais death toll “highlights refugees’ desperation”

The rising death toll among refugees and migrants at a French port requires urgent action from the authorities, the UN said Friday.

According to the UN Refugee Agency UNHCR, at least 10 people have died trying to cross the Channel to the United Kingdom since June.

UNHCR’s Melissa Fleming told Daniel Johnson that the tragedies highlight the desperation felt by the 3,000 refugees and migrants at the port in northern France.
