The leaders of the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities have set a positive tone for full-fledged reunification talks, according to a senior UN official.

The United Nations has been working to bridge differences on the divided island of Cyprus since 1964.

The UN’s special adviser to the country, Espen Barth Eide, said the recent opening of border crossings and new electricity and telephone links between the two parts were “confidence-building measures” that would help advance the talks.

Cristina Silveiro spoke to Mr Eide about progress thus far.
