The ongoing conflict in Syria has pushed more than half the population into hunger and poverty, according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP).
Five years of fighting has decimated the country’s agriculture sector and caused food prices to rise, the agencies say in a joint report released on Thursday.
As a result, Syrian families are spending more than half their incomes on food.
The price of bread alone shot up by nearly 90 per cent in the past year.
