The risk of dying from the hepatitis virus has been cut massively in some parts of the world, but it remains a major threat in others, UN experts said Thursday.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), hepatitis B and C are responsible for 80 per cent of all deaths from liver cancer and kill close to 1.4 million people every year.

One of the leading causes of infection is unsafe injections in poor – and rich - nations, as WHO’s Dr Edward Kelley explained to Daniel Johnson, ahead of World Hepatitis Day on Tuesday July 28.
