Heatwave warning system launched to tackle health threat

Killer heatwaves can catch governments by surprise, but that could be a thing of the past thanks to a new early warning system that’s now available, UN experts said Wednesday.

Led by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), the “heatwaves and health” initiative provides governments with procedures that they can put in place to protect vulnerable individuals.

WMO’s Clare Nullis explained to Daniel Johnson how many countries could benefit from the plan.
