Although up to 90 per cent of world trade is carried out using ships, the work of the people on those vessels is not well known.

That’s according to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), which wants to change that situation through a campaign launched on the Day of the Seafarer observed on 25 June.

This year the agency is encouraging young people, many of whom face challenges in finding employment, to consider a career at sea.
