Political action and financial investment is needed to end what’s been described by a senior UN official as “energy poverty.”

The international community is meeting at the UN in New York this week to discuss, amongst other issues, how to bring electricity to the 1.4 billion people around the world who do not have it.

Kandeh Yumkella is the UN Special Representative for Sustainable Energy For All.

He’s been speaking to Maoqi Li.
