“Gender-bias” in textbooks is keeping girls from pursuing a career in science, maths and technology according to a professor of sociology based in the United States.

Rae Lesser Blumberg wrote a study for the UN cultural agency, UNESCO, on how gender-based discrimination in education is driving women and girls away from subjects that they otherwise may excel in.

Professor Blumberg was recently at UN Headquarters to attend the 59th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women.

Cathrine Hasselberg asked her how gender bias is affecting both girls and boys.
