Efforts should be intensified to achieve equality between men and women by 2030.
That’s according to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon speaking at a high-level debate on gender equality on the eve of International Women’s Day.
This year the annual celebration comes at a time when the United Nations is reviewing progress in meeting the Millennium Development Goals or MDGs.
One of these eight goals, set by world leaders in 2000, is the promotion of gender equality and empowerment of women.
