“Blue economy” to protect ocean and resources in East Africa

The concept of “blue economy” is driving discussions about how oceans and seas can be explored in a sustainable way to promote domestic resources.
That’s accordingly to Mr Antonio Pedro, Director of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), who says Africa needs to maximize the opportunities it has to develop using its oceanic spaces.
How to harness the blue economy for Eastern Africa’s development is being discussed this week in a meeting of a group of experts, jointly organized by ECA and the Government of Madagascar, in the country’s capital Antananarivo.
Ana Carmo asked Mr Pedro to explain the concept of the blue economy and its importance for the region.
