Most people in Papua New Guinea grow their own food and are able to feed themselves, but lack proper methods of preservation, a UN Food Agency (FAO) official has said.

The majority of the population in the south west Pacific island nation practices agriculture and fishing.

Food easily goes to waste because there are no facilities to keep the produce from going bad, Blaise Kuemlangan, the Chief of Development Law Service at FAO told Stephanie Coutrix.

Speaking on the margins of a global conference on nutrition in Rome, Italy, Mr Kuemlangan began by giving her an overview of the food situation.
