Leaders of the Islamist militant groups known as ISIS, ISIL or Da’ish are “undeniably” guilty of war crimes in Iraq, according to the UN human rights chief.

Briefing the Security Council on Tuesday, Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein added the groups could possibly be guilty of genocide and crimes against humanity.

Iraq has experienced increasing instability in 2014 as a result of an ongoing offensive by the group calling itself the Islamic State or ISIL.

The UN estimates that two million Iraqis have been forced to flee their homes.
