The importance of well-planned and well-managed cities is being stressed on the first ever celebration of World Cities Day on 31st October.

According to the United Nations, nearly five billion people will live in cities by 2030, creating immense pressure on housing, services, resources and the environment.

It is also estimated that over 60 per cent of urban populations will be young people under 18 years of age who will need education, health facilities and jobs.
