A “bias” that keeps women out of science, engineering and technology, needs to be tackled according to a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at CISCO, an American multinational company.

The comments were made ahead of the inaugural GEM-TECH Awards, co-organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and UN Women to celebrate the power of technology to transform women’s lives around the world.

Seven individuals and organizations received the awards at an event in Busan, South Korea on Tuesday for their efforts to promote the use of information and communication technologies for gender equality.

Maximillian Jacobson-Gonzalez discussed this issue with Monique Jeanne Morrow CTO at Cisco which is a Gem-Tech Awards 2014 Partner.
