The Democratic Republic of the Congo has experienced extremes of “hope and despair’ in less than one month.

That’s what the head of the United Nations mission in the country (MONUSCO) told the UN Security Council during a briefing on Monday.

The eastern part of the country continues to experience extreme violence despite efforts by the UN to reinforce security.
