Women in prison experience more difficult conditions than men, according to the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women.

Ms Rashida Manjoo was at UN Headquarters in New York on Thursday to talk about problems faced by women who are in custody or incarcerated.

She said women in jail sometimes have to trade sex for basic necessities, they experience inappropriate touching, and their privacy in bathrooms is often violated.

Stephanie Coutrix asked Ms Manjoo about the investigations she leads worldwide to uncover situations in which women are victims of violence.
