The UN was created to save future generations from the scourge of war, to advance human rights, and to promote justice, according to the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative in Kosovo, Farid Zarif.

The UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) was established by the Security Council in 1999.

The Mission’s role is to help ensure conditions for a peaceful and normal life for all inhabitants of Kosovo and advance regional stability in the Western Balkans.

On UN Day, Radio Ophelia took to the streets of Kosovo to discuss the UN with ordinary men and women.

UN’s Development Coordinator in Kosovo, Andrew Russell was also asked how the organization was helping Kosovo meet its development goals.
