“Recipes” to combat desertification exist, according to a forestry expert at the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Nora Berrahmouni says that if nothing is done to prevent desertification, which is the process of land degradation, people’s livelihoods and food security will deteriorate.

She was speaking in the context of a new €41 million programme launched by FAO and the European Union called Action Against Desertification.

Priscilla Lecomte spoke with Ms Berrahmouni and began by asking her to explain the process of desertification.
