The food situation has improved in South Sudan with more than two million people pulled from the brink of famine, according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The agency says that is due to the efforts it has made together with the World Food Programme (WFP) and Mercy C orps, an international charity.

However, FAO warns that despite the short-term improvements, 1.5 million people are projected to remain severely food insecure until the end of 2014.

Sandra Ferrari discussed the food situation in South Sudan with Sue Lautze, FAO’s representative and the UN’s Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator in the country.
