Mobile solar computer classroom brings technology to women in Uganda
A mobile computer classroom is helping women and girls gain access to essential information on the internet, according to the Executive Director of a Ugandan NGO.
Asia Kamukama, who leads the Maendeleo Foundation, said the organization reaches many women in rural, remote areas of the country.
In addition, the classroom is solar-powered and therefore doesn’t require electricity to operate.
The Maendeleo Foundation is a recipient of the 2014 SEED Awards for Entrepreneurship in Sustainable Development, which was delivered in Nairobi by Ibrahim Thiaw, UNEP Deputy Executive Director and UN Assistant Secretary-General, on behalf of the SEED Partners.
Stephanie Coutrix spoke on the line with Asia Kamukama who explained the concept of this innovative project.
