The violence and brutality towards women and girls in Iraq has been described as striking by the UN Humanitarian Chief.

Valerie Amos made the comment during a visit to the Khanke internally displaced persons camp in Dohuk, one of the largest in the country.

Twenty million people across Iraq have been forced to flee their homes since January this year, as a result of attacks by insurgents of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
