A new camp for displaced people is taking shape in the village of Khanke in Iraq's Kurdistan region, with the help of the UN refugee agency (UNHCR) and its partners.

The camp will house some of the thousands of Iraqis who have been forced to flee their homes as a result of attacks by insurgents of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

Many of the displaced families have been living in open spaces or on the streets without a roof over their heads in Dohuk town of northern Iraq.

After weeks of uncomfortable living in the courtyard of an old public building, Chenar and her ethnic Yazidi family are looking forward to moving to the new facility.

Warda Aljawahiry reports.
