National ownership of peace process is crucial, says new head of mission in South Sudan

In a country coming out of conflict, a solution to address root causes cannot be imposed from abroad, according to the new Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in South Sudan.

Ellen Margrethe Løj, who has just taken up her post, said the job was impossible to turn down because the country’s people had fought hard for their independence.

The new head of the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) explained to Gabriel Shadar that it is vital that all segments of South Sudanese society get involved in the peace process.
