Villagers on the Pacific island of Samoa, whose homes were destroyed by the tsunami of 2009, are adapting to a new life away from the sea shore.

After Saleapaga village on the south coast of the island was devastated by the tidal wave, the community decided to rebuild the village, but on higher ground and inland, safe from future tsunamis.

Many other low-lying island nations are also faced with the dilemma of how to adapt to new climatic conditions.

The UN Secretary-General visited Saleapaga on Sunday from where Daniel Dickinson reports.
