South Sudan will see famine this year or early next year if fighting between government and rebel forces doesn’t stop.

This warning has come from the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in the new African country where thousands of people have been displaced by the conflict.

Fighting broke out in December 2013 between government troops and fighters loyal to former Vice President Riek Machar who was sacked by President Salvar Kiir in July of that year.

It has continued despite peace talks between the government and rebels in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

To find out more about the humanitarian situation in South Sudan, Derrick Mbatha spoke with Toby Lanzer, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in the country.
