Over 1,700 Iraqi civilians were killed and close to 2,000 injured in acts of terrorism and violence in July.

These new casualty figures were released by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) on Friday.

However the total death toll during that period, including civilians and security forces, is 3,715.

Baghdad is the worst affected governorate with a little over 1,000 civilians killed, the report shows.

Casualties from Anbar province, controlled by Islamic State militants in the west, were not included.

Cristina Silveiro spoke to the UNAMI Deputy-Director, Mr Khalid A. Dahab, to find out more.
