Massai use radio as “door” to bring their issues to the open

The Maasai people in the Ngorongoro District of Tanzania are using radio to air their concerns and reach out to fellow Tanzanians so their particular situation can be better understood.

The Maasai pastoralists are concerned about being pushed out of grazing areas to make way for tourism.

Thanks to the UN cultural agency (UNESCO), a team has been at work since last year broadcasting from the district.

Yannick Ndoinyo, Executive Director of the Tanzania-based IrkiRamat Foundation spoke with Derrick Mbatha about the community radio operation and some of the challenges it is facing.
