A new site has been opened by the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) in Malakal, the capital of Upper Nile State, to protect civilians who have fled violence in the country.

Since the fighting broke out between government forces and those loyal to former Vice President Riek Machar in December 2013, thousands of civilians in South Sudan have fled their homes.

The UN Mission in the country (UNMISS) is now hosting over 90,000 civilians in protection of civilians or POC sites located in 10 of its compounds around the country.
