Smoking could kill more than eight million people every year by 2030, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Every year on 31 May, WHO and its partners mark World No Tobacco Day, advocating for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption.

This year, they are calling on all countries to raise taxes on tobacco, a habit that currently kills 6 million people annually.

Many countries in Africa have already implemented these policies to help dissuade consumers.
