Highly effective treatment and diagnostics for HIV, malaria, tuberculosis are increasingly becoming available but market barriers need to be removed so that people can have access to them.
That’s the conclusion of a report issued by a global health initiative, called UNITAID.
The initiative is financed by a levy on airline tickets to facilitate access to medicines in low- and middle income countries.
UNITAID was established in 2006 by the governments of Brazil, Chile, France, Norway and the United Kingdom to compliment global efforts to provide funds to combat diseases.
Derrick Mbatha reports.
