Tanzania steps up efforts to contain dengue fever outbreak

Health officials in Tanzania are battling an outbreak of dengue fever which has killed three people and infected more than 400.

Dengue is a contagious viral infection transmitted through mosquitoes which begins with flu-like symptoms.

It can become fatal if it develops into severe dengue.

The World Health Organization’s Dr Grace Saguti says the UN agency will collaborate with the government to fight the disease.

She’s been speaking to Assumpta Massoi about the outbreak in country’s economic capital, Dar es Salaam.
