Somalia has been commended by a senior United Nations official for the political and economic progress it is making.

The UN Assistant Secretary General for peacebuilding support, Judy Cheng-Hopkins arrived in the Horn of Africa country on Sunday for a five-day visit.

Somalia is in the process of rebuilding federal state institutions and preparing for national elections in 2016 after more than two decades of what was called a failed state.

At the same, Somali forces, supporting by African Union troops, continue to push Al-Shabaab terrorists out of the areas they have controlled.
