Flying is still the safest way to travel according to an annual report released by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The number of fatal accidents involving scheduled commercial operations remained steady at nine during 2013, with total fatalities down to 173.

That is compared to 388 in 2012 – a 55 per cent decrease.

The 2013 figures do not take into account the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.

Nancy Graham is the Director of the Air Navigation Bureau at the Montreal-based UN agency.

Daniel Dickinson asked her about the main message of the report.
