The Mekong River is an important resource for millions of people in Asia as it runs through China, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.

This poses a challenge for the countries to ensure that all the people in the region benefit from its rich and diverse ecosystems.

The issue is even more important as some countries look at ways of generating hydropower.

UN Radio's Derrick Mbatha discussed the importance of this river with Andrew Hudson, Head of the Water and Ocean Governance Programme at the UN Development Programme (UNDP).
