Political commitment and technical expertise are needed to create cities in which people can live as equal citizens, according to the UN’s human settlements chief.

Speaking at the World Urban Forum which ends on Friday in the Colombian city of Medellin, Joan Clos, the Executive Director of UN-Habitat, said that urban planning should be democratic and involve all parts of the community.
