Search and rescue efforts continue to find the many missing people who were on a boat that capsized on Uganda’s Lake Albert over the weekend.

The UN refugee agency, UNHCR, says the refugees had been in Uganda for more or less three years and felt the situation was now safe enough for them to go back home.

According to refugees, the boat carrying as many as 250 passengers capsized due to too many people on board.

Over 100 people are still uncounted for.

Uganda is a major refugee-hosting country, with more than 320,000 refugees and asylum seekers as of the end of February, according to UNHCR.

Patrick Maigua from UN Radio spoke with UNHCR’s Spokesperson Fatoumata Lejeune-Kaba.
