A campaign to generate 23 million social media tweets in support of the Syrian people has been launched by a UN-backed coalition of humanitarian agencies.

The Thunderclap campaign, using the hashtag LetUsThrough, is intended to draw the world’s attention to the difficulty of providing humanitarian aid to Palestinian refugees in Yarmouk camp as well as to other people displaced by the ongoing conflict in Syria.

Once the 23 million messages have been tweeted, a symbolic number representing the pre-war Syrian population, an image of people queuing for food in Yarmouk will be projected onto the Nasdaq electronic billboard in New York’s Times Square.

May Yaacoub has been speaking to Chris Gunness from the UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees (UNWRA) which is behind the Thunderclap campaign.

She began by asking him about the current situation in Yarmouk.
